On Sunday, November 13th we were dispatched to a brush fire in the 35000 block of Wilderness Shores Way. Thankfully no one was injured and there was no significant property damage. While on scene Junior Firefighter Katelyn used the opportunity to discuss outdoor fire safety with the family.
Helping our community to understand community risk reduction is another way that we serve our neighbors, especially the youngest. As our friends #VAForestry reminded us Virginia’s fall fire season is Oct. 15 – Nov. 30th. Please visit their website or FB page for some best practices related to outdoor fire safety and associated laws.
Remember outdoor fires can spread quickly. If you choose to burn outdoors, such as yard debris or firepits, be extra careful and check for local ordinances and burn bans. The best intentions can produce disastrous results when safety precautions are not taken. Home fire safety doesn’t stop at the door.
We are so lucky in our Locust Grove community to have responders such as Junior Firefighter Katelyn. She responds to calls, helps to coordinate fire safety education programs, and works as a volunteer in our department as well as with Old Dominion Humane Society.
